The captivating canvases by Hungarian-born artist Brigitta Kocsis place the creative process between figuration and abstraction.  The compositions are focused on investigating the shifting concepts of the human body and its environment.  Kocsis effortlessly fuses traditional painterly expression with references to technology, resulting in unique compositions that ever more relevantly suggest an increasingly dependent relationship between the mechanical and the organic.  The added element of abstraction serves as a brilliant testimonial to our contemporary environment in its fragmented state.

In 1990 after living in London, UK for two years and learning English in Brixton, Kocsis relocated to Montreal to pursue her fine arts education at Concordia University.  Eventually settling in Vancouver, she completed her BFA at the renowned Emily Carr University in 2005.

Brigitta Kocsis is the recipient of a 2010 Canada Council Assistance to Visual Artists – Project Grant, and just returned to Vancouver after spending five months researching and creating in Paris and Berlin.  She is now planning to travel to Geneva, Switzerland in September, 2011 for her first European solo show.
