Blake Sculpture

October 6 – Oct 27, 2011
Reception: Oct 6th, 2011 @ 7-10pm

Petley Jones Gallery is proud to present an exciting show of Blake Sculptures.

Born in the Canadian Arctic, Blake received an honours degree in Fine Arts from the University of Alberta. In the mid 1980’s, Blake moved to Paris to further his education and apprentice in figurative sculpture. He currently resides in Monte Carlo, Monaco and creates his sculptures predominantly in bronze and marble.

Using time-tested techniques and skill honed from years of dedicated practice, Blake’s sculptures are simultaneously Classical and provocatively modern. While his sculptures are often modern evocations of classical subjects based on the themes of dance, mythology, feminism, idealised beauty and the human spirit they also act as a conduits for addressing major issues such as human rights (Re-Think series) and in raising awareness of the destructive power of landmines in developing nations (Fragments series).

Blake has exhibited extensively worldwide including major exhibitions in Monte Carlo, England (Canterbury Cathedral, London), France, the United States, Cambodia and Canada. His sculptures are in numerous important private and public international collections including on public display in the Principality of Monaco.

In true European fashion, Blake’s sculptures are limited to editions of 12 or fewer. Some sculptures such as his “Angels” pieces (as seen at Petley Jones Gallery) are one of a kind sculptures.

In honour of the European tradition, each sculpture is limited to an edition of twelve or fewer.
