About the Artist

Born 1955 in Spiritwood Saskatchewan, Michael Hermesh studied art at the Okanagan University College and the Vancouver School of Art (Emily Carr). He also has extensive experience in furniture design. From his residence and self-constructed studio, he continues to indulge his passion for sculpting, as well as mentor drawing workshops and sculpture classes.Michael’s first monumental piece the “The Frieze of the Arts” has graced the façade of the Summerland Arts Center since the summer of 2001. “The Friends of the Garden” and the Summerland Chapter of The International Sculpture Symposium (through Agriculture Canada) commissioned his “Standing Man” bronze sculpture which is now placed in the Summerland Research Station Ornamental Gardens. His latest installation “The Baggage Handler: A Ballet with Suitcases and Memories” graced the Marina Way roundabout of Penticton from January to the end of February 2005 and has been purchased by Red Rooster Winery as a bronze to be installed before Fall 2006.Michael’s work continues to be well received and is represented in international collections throughout Canada, Italy, Germany, Mexico, Chile, Spain and the United States.
